If you have experienced trouble completing some missions it's probably not your fault. This otherwise superb submarine warfare simulation suffers from scanty documentation of essential features and procedures. Some of the provided missions are equipped with cryptic briefings that do little to help you determine what is to be accomplished. Trial-and-error is the order of the day.

"Beery", who expertly inhabits subsim.com has put together a guide to completing missions. I have added added a few comments to this based on my own findings.

How to view the mission completion guide and download test missions:

I have put together several trivially simple missions to give you some experience with mission completion. These include "Lifeguard". "Photo Recon" and "Commando Drop". Most other mission types are similar to the Commando drop or are otherwise easy to understand. These tiny missions do not contain any combat challenges - just the essentials for gaining some experience with how eaxh type is completed.

Remember ... you must place each of these missions in an individual folder in \Program Files\Ubisoft ...\...\Data\SingleMissions that has the EXACT same name as the mission file. The names for the missions listed above are the ones to use for these folder names.  For example, place the two files from the unzipped "Test Photo" you download into:

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter IV Wolves of the Pacific\Data\SinglrMissions\Test Photo

Assuming C: is your installation drive. You will have to create \Test Photo using the Windows Explorer File\New\Folder tool.

Look for the mission(s) in "Quick Missions" in the simulation main window. For the example above you will see "Test: Photo Recon"

Good Luck,

Capt J. Hazelwood / SS "Haddock"
